After ten years, the passengers will go into hibernation. Teenager Marco is one of the passengers, but when everyone is asleep, he can't sleep. To lull him to sleep, the ship's AI tells him story after story about the universe. ...... The audience will be put to sleep, and the cabin attendants will help you put on the VR and prepare for your journey into the universe. You may feel drowsy, but remember to stay awake. If you have technical difficulties, get seasick or feel sick, please raise your hand and an attendant will help you. Inspired by Calvino's novel ‘The Cosmic Connections’.

"Institute of imagination 2022" Call for Performing Arts x Technology Creative Proposals

Art-trch focus researching programmme,

Jun - Oct 2022

An Experimental Project to Support Artistic and Technological Creation

The ‘Performing Arts X Technology’ Pilot Project does not aim to produce a full-scale performance production, but is people-oriented, emphasising on ideas, concepts, experiments, reflection, discussion and practice. The project provides resources and a one-month study space (in the Cattle Depot Artist Village) for creators to ferment new ideas and establish their own direction of creative production, thereby updating and changing their concepts of art and completing the stage-by-stage process of cultivating an artistic interdisciplinary and holistic vision of art and paving the way for future full-scale creations. In order to complete the stage-by-stage process, we will cultivate a cross-disciplinary and holistic vision of art, and pave the way for a full-fledged creative endeavour in the future. The call for proposals started in October 2021, and among the 30-odd applications received, two winners were selected and provided with a grant of HK$90,000 and one month's experimental space in the Cattle Depot for the final experimental exhibition. However, in order to comply with the Government's latest regulation under the Prevention and Control of Disease Ordinance, the ‘Performing Arts X Technology Call for Proposals’ Pilot Project Exhibition at Cattle Depot Artist Village on 22-23 January 2022 was cancelled and due to various factors, it was eventually changed to an online broadcast performance.

The two winning teams are ‘Constantine's Video Prose’, whose concept is based on Chekhov's classic play ‘The Seagull’ and combines sensory and technological elements, and ‘假日貞操Virgin Vacation’, whose work is based on the interplay of music, visual art and video design.

Jul 2021, Cultural Activities Hall, Sha Tin Town Hall, Hong Kong

Adapted from Calvino's famous novel ‘The Invisible City’, Kublai, the emperor, and Marco Polo, a foreigner, play a game of chess in which they talk about several cities, both ancient and modern, that are hard to distinguish from the real ones.

The audience travelled between the real theatre and the VR world, observing the virtual and the real, and pondering the meaning of cities with Kublai, Marco Polo, and Siri.
